Weekend Roundup

Diogenes goes VIRAL, Achilles seeks Glory and Cicero gets some Love.

Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,

I let dear daughter pick out the theme for this year’s halloween costumes… and she didn’t disappoint! As a fellow lover of ancient history, she choose her favorite Egyptian gods from the Book of the Dead: Maat, Isis and Osiris.

We’ve been working on the costumes all week…making paper mache hearts, painting giant ankhs and now it’s time to shave my husband’s beard and paint his face green. You know, normal weekend activities…

Before I leave you to this weekend’s roundup, a funny announcement. Classical Wisdom went a bit viral over the week! Who would have known that Diogenes was primed to make the rounds? At last count it had 38K Shares, 67K likes and 1.3K Comments…

As such, we posted an article about the fellow, to give these new folks a bit of an introduction to the controversial Cynic.

Also out this week was an article on Stoicism and Grief, Heroes in search of Kleos, as well as our Monday mailbag question: How can we achieve Glory?

For our members, we had a week dedicated to the great orator, statesman and philosopher, Cicero, in anticipation of our extremely successful event, “How to Grieve,” including a Classical Wisdom Litterae issue and an E-book anthology of Ciceros orations and letters.

In fact, as a special thanks for all of those who registered for our panel discussion, we have opened up the Member’s only Cicero newsletter. So, even if you aren’t a society member, you can read about Cicero here.

Finally, we got wonderful feedback from our recently completed “In Search of Homer” voyage. Read their first hand account of traveling with Emily Wilson and Bill Irvine throughout Greece… and find out more about our upcoming March journey.

That’s all from us this week… have a Happy Halloween!!!

All the best,

Anya Leonard
