Oscar Wilde in Ancient Greek?

Dear Classical Wisdom Reader,

As Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Language… is the parent, and not the child, of thought.”

So what happens when you translate Wilde into ancient Greek and Latin?

That’s exactly the task undertaken by Dr. Juan Coderch, our guest on the latest edition of Podcasts with Professors, our Members-only podcast. He talks about his translations of Sherlock Holmes and The Little Prince into ancient Greek and Latin, the challenges of translating an author as rich in wordplay as Wilde, and (pardon the expression) the importance of ancient languages.

Discover it all for yourself in the link below…

If you’re interested in Dr. Coderch’s work, he will also be speaking at the ‘Classics in Praxis’ event at the Delphi Economic Forum, which can be attended either in person or virtually. You can find out more about the event HERE.

Members can also look forward to a special event this week. Mary Naples will be discussing her fascinating new e-book ‘The Cult of the Captured Bride’ at our exclusive LIVE Roundtable event on April 18th at 12:30pm EST.

We’ll be talking about the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, which is about as close as you can get to an ‘original version’ of the endlessly enduring myth of Hades and Persephone. Plus, the truth about the Thesmophoria festival (familiar to fans of Aristophanes) and how it was crucial to female power in the ancient world.

Remember, this is a MEMBERS ONLY event. Don’t worry if you can’t make it on the day, as everyone who registers will be sent a recording of the event afterwards. Already a member? You can register HERE.

And on to the rest of the week’s resources…
