Literature is one of the greatest gifts of the ancients.

We’ve all at least heard of the epic poetry of Homer, or the powerful plays of Greek tragedy. But what are some of the earliest novels from antiquity?

Well, this week we released our exclusive e-book for our Members, The Ancient Novel, which looks at the answer to that question.

Though it’s hard to give a definitive date as to the origin of the ancient novel, in this anthology we bring you the first three meaningful examples of it… these three books have the special trait of being both hugely influential – they would inspire works like The Great Gatsby, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Waste Land – as well as being fully entertaining and engaging in and of themselves.
